BOARD OF DIRECTORS
CHARLIE BLOOM, MSW, President Charlie Bloom, MSW, is an educator, psychotherapist and co-director (with his wife Linda) of the Empowerment Network, based in Santa Cruz, California. He has facilitated workshops and seminars across the U.S. since 1982 and has served on the faculties of California Institute of Integral Studies, Antioch University, JFK University, and Esalen Institute. He co-authored "101 Things I Wish I Knew When I Got Married," with his wife Linda.
SANDRA HAY Sandra Hay has been an internationally-renowned dancer and choreograhper and performed with the Alvin Ailey and Eric Hawkins Dance Companies in New York. Her interest in combining multi media and film technologies with dance brought Sandra to California where she was hired by Disney.In transitioning from dance to film and video, Sandra became partners with Alan Kozlowski in 1983 and formed Visualize, a Santa Monica production company whose purpose was to create high-end film and video projects with substantive content. They produced and directed music videos, exercise videos, music specials, documentaries and industrials which were produced or directed by Sandra Hay. Sandra is now at the helm of Unseen Pictures in Santa Monica, CA. She filmed concert tours of Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Hornsby and Shawn Colvin, and produced PBS specials of Andrew Weil, Carolyn Myss, and Deepak Chopra.
GEORGIA KELLY Georgia Kelly is the Founder and Executive Director of Praxis Peace Institute. She has produced and directed three 7-day peacebuilding conferences in Dubrovnik, Croatia (2000, 2002, and 2007) and a fourth conference, "The Alchemy of Democracy" in California in June 2004. Georgia contitnues to create educational programs for Praxis Peace Institute. A long-time active citizen, Georgia has chaired many issue-based political organizations and educational forums. She chaired the Marin County chapter of Jerry Brown's presidential campaign in 1992 and was a delegate at the Democratic National Convention that year. Since 1988, Georgia has spent considerable time in the Balkans and has published several articles on the region. In 2004, she completed a certificate program in Conflict Resolution from Sonoma State University. PATRICIA ROYMAN Patricia Royman is a public relations and marketing professional and is a current board member of the Global Cooperation Project. He clients have included the Venice Biennale (Italy), the Presideo National Park (SF), Starnet, the University of Washington School of Law, and many others.
ADVISORY BOARDAngeles Arrien, Ph.D., is a cultural anthropologist, educator, award-winning author and corporate consultant. She is author of "The Four-Fold Way," Signs of Life, and "The Nine Muses." Her work with multi-cultural issues and conflict resolution has been used with the International Human Rights Commission. Larry Barnett Larry Barnett served as a Sonoma City Councilman for 12 years and twice served as Mayor of Sonoma (2000 and 2005). Larry is one of the few elected Green Party members in Northern California. Larry is a website developer, and his company Epiphanet provides comprehensive web development services to a range of commercial businesses and non-profit organizations. Epiphanet also provides the web support for Praxis Peace Institute. Deborah Breitbach Deborah
Breitbach is currently the Director of Donor Relations at theInstitute
of Noetic Sciences (IONS). She has a long history of workingin the
social-profit sector and comes to us with over 30 yearsexperience in
the areas of social activism, research, education, andhealth. Deborah
has been a member of Praxis for over a year and hasparticipated in many
of our events and workshops. Adriana Dakin earned a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University’s JFK School of Government and is currently co-chair of their alumni association in Northern California. She is a consultant in public policy research, women’s leadership development, and knowledge management. Adriana received an award from the World Affairs Council for her research project on the dissolution of the USSR. She has given numerous presentations of her research. She is also a potter, photographer and rancher. Adriana works with the Madera Group, a consulting firm in Corte Maders, CA. Riane Eisler, J.D. isbest-known for her international best-seller, "The Chalice and theBlade." She is President of the Center for Partnership Studies, hastaught at the University of California in LA, and is a fellow at theWorld Academy of Art and Science. Riane Eisler has also done pioneeringwork in human rights and serves on many boards and advisory councils.She has written several other seminal books, including "The PartershipWay," which integrates personal, social, and political relationships ina partnership model. Her latest book, "The Real Wealth of Nations"focuses on under and non valued work in society. Matt Gonzalez, J.D. is a graduate of Stanford Law School where he was an editor of the Stanford Law Review. For ten years, he worked as a trial lawyer in the Office of the Public Defender in San Francisco. In 2000, Matt was the first Green Party member to be elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. As supervisor, he helped establish the highest minimum wage in the country. In 2003, Matt was elected President of the Board of Supervisors. Currently, he is a partner in a private law firm in San Francisco (Gonzalez and Leigh).
Sam Keen, Ph.D., Educated at Harvard and Princeton Universities, Sam has been a professor of philosophy and religion, a contributing editor of Psychology Today, and author and co-producer of the award-winning PBS documentary, "Faces of the Enemy." His books include the best-selling "Fire in the Belly: On Being a Man" and "Faces of the Enemy," updated in 2004.
Jamie Pendell Johnston is a professional event planner with experience in organizing and planing nationwide lecture tours, fundraising events, and international conferences. She was Special Events Coordinator for SHELTER, Inc., was a Program Coordinator for the Whole Life Expo, and Assistant Coordinator at the 2000 and 2002 Dubrovnik Peace Conferences in Croatia. Jamie has a Master's degree in psychology from JFK University.
David Korten, Ph.D., is the author of When Corporations Rule the World and The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community. He is co-founder the Positive Futures Network, which publishes Yes! Magazine. Korten holds M.B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and has taught at Harvard University. He also served as a project specialist in Southeast Asia with the Ford Foundation and served as a regional advisor to USAID. Daniel Solnit is the founder and Director of the Institute for Local Economic Democracy, a nno-profit leading the transition to local sustainability, and a union organizer with SEIU local 1000. Past positions include Campaign Coordinator for GE-Free Sonoma County, a local initiative to ban genetically engineered crops; Executive director of the Leadership Institute for Ecology and the Economy; and lead organizer for the Green Party of California. He lives in Sebastopol.
Gina Thompson is the former Executive Director of the Center for the Healing Arts in Los Angeles, CA, the first holistic health clinic in the US. She is former Director of The Hermes Project (Malibu, CA), which promoted personal and planetary peace. Gina now consults and procures funding for charitable organizations that benefit the spirit and environment.
Lila Tresemer (formerly Laura Lea Cannon) has been involved with production, multi media and photography since the early 70s. She is executive producer and playwright with The New Troubadours Theatrre, a production company producing 'modern mythic dramas. She is president of All Season's Chalice/StarHouse, a center dedicated to providing sacred ground for ceremonial practice, earth stewardship and community celebrations. Rose Welch is Assistant to the President at The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) in Petaluma, California. Formerly, she was Director of Community Groups at IONS and has been involved with Praxis Peace Institute from the beginning of its existence.
